Initially, I approach the process as a investigation, probing at random or testing specific ideas.  The results are then subject to aesthetic and artistic considerations, which inform further processing, selecting, cropping.  Sometimes, the first image I get back is “the one”, other times I’m more interested in where continuously repeating a process leads—-as in the iterative re-compression of video (which is done manually) or in repeatedly rotating and hex editing a file.
